What is Positive Convention?
Positive Convention is a forum about living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHIV) for PLWHIV, those affected and the general public. The forum is aimed at creating a social forum to learn and discuss about what it means to live with HIV/AIDS and how everyone can play a part in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
PCN allows people to interact with each other on issues related to HIV/AIDS. The website provides that space to share and debate issues and ideas on how people living with HIV/AIDS can improve their quality of life economically and socially. It is about how we can contribute in meeting South Africa’s targets of preventing new HIV infections while providing care to people who need it. If you have been affected by HIV, you are invited to share your own personal experiences about how HIV has affected. Forums will facilitate different debates.
Amongst the topics will be the following:
- The role of people living with HIV in preventing new HIV infections
- How to promote positive life style for people living with HIV/AIDS
- How to create networking opportunities amongst all people living with HIV and AIDS
- How to encourage information seeking behaviour on living with HIV including treatment and support issues.
- How to directly engage on issues that affects the sector i.e. stigma (internal and external), discrimination, disclosure and legal and human rights.
- Facilitating debates and influencing policy on HIV and AIDS issues. E.g. defining positive prevention and discrimination by insurance companies in South Africa.
It is a known fact that after a positive HIV diagnose, many people get lost in communities without proper support and direction. Though they might have received pre and post test counselling where they tested, ongoing support and counselling remains very important if a person is to accept his or her status.
Many people discover that they are HIV positive when they try to buy life cover or during pregnancy. They need a forum/platform that will engage them directly. A platform that speaks the language that is understandable and relevant needs to our needs. That is why Positive Convention will go a long way in supporting those people and hopefully saving many lives and preventing new HIV infections.
This forum aims to fill some of those gaps by creating a open platform for people living with HIV/AIDS. The forum is broken into different forms of activities throughout the year. You are invited to go through the site to see what features are there, suggest topics or even write for the site.
